Yorkshire Open Polo Championship 2009

White Rose Polo Club was delighted to welcome ten teams to the third Yorkshire Open Polo Championship this weekend.

The four teams competing in the -4 to -8 division were Phoenix, Spartans, Herdsman's Builders and White Rose Black. Saturday’s matches were played at Houghton Hall with Herdsman's Builders and White Rose Black going through to the final. Sunday saw both teams play a very exciting match resulting in White Rose Black winning the silverware. Final score: 7: 1 ½

Spectators were treated to some fantastic polo at Townend Farm and watched the higher division battle it out to win this year’s prestigious Yorkshire Open Cup. With teams travelling from all over the country, competition was fierce and after some fast and furious matches, Devil’s Advocate was victorious over Barracuda. Final score: 7 : 5

It was lovely to have our vice chairman James Phillips back in the commentary box where he did a grand job entertaining our spectators.

Well done to all the teams, helpers, grooms and James, Irene, and Tony for all their help and support.
