Patrick Wilkinson Beach Challenge Plate

In perfect weather, members of the Vale of York Polo Club played for the Patrick Wilkinson Beach Challenge Plate on South Beach, Bridlington, setting up a full size ground (300m x 200m) with the tide out- providing acres of space and a perfect surface.

The knock out tournament saw George Carter's yellow team easily beat Andrew Scotts Blue team 5-0 to win a place in the final. The second match between Patrick Wilkinson's red team and Paul Piddington's green team featured an incredible equalising goal in extra time. With less than 20 seconds left, Anrdrew Heardsman stole the ball on the halfway line and galloped all the way to goal to slot in the equaliser. This led to a penalty shoot out, convincinly won by the Green Team 3-1. The final was a clash between George Carter's yellow team and Paul Piddington's greens. George Carter has been on great form all winter but the green team were in no mood to lose, scoring early in the match to take the lead. They continued to attack until their second goal sealed the match.

Mulled wine and food from Alex Yeo was enjoyed by all during the presentations. Jacqui Stride sponsored the best playing pony award won by Pintado owned by George Carter and played by Lorraine Quinn.
